The European Football Federation stated on Thursday that prize money for the next women's EURO 2022 football championship will be doubled, although it will still be less than 5% of what men get.

UEFA said that the 16 teams that qualified for next year's event in England would split a total of €16 million, which is double the prize pool from the last edition in 2017. The prize money will be determined by each team's performance in the competition.

Meanwhile, for the first time, a club benefits scheme will be implemented, with €4.5 million available to teams who release their players for the competition."The establishment of a club benefit and increased cash payouts"

The 24 men's teams who competed in this summer's EURO tournament shared a €371 million prize pool. The winning team, Italy, also took home €34 million, more than double the prize pool for the women's teams.

Clubs who released their players for the tournament earned over €200 million in compensation.

UEFA has also announced additional solidarity payments for men's club competitions in order to provide "more financial solidarity to a broader range of teams that do not compete in UEFA club competitions for the 2021-2024 cycle."

All non-top five associations (England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France) have grown their shares, while the difference between associations with and without teams competing in the UEFA Champions League group stage has narrowed.

Non-participating teams are expected to get around €175 million, up from €130 million in the 2018-2021 period.
